Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious knee injury. The setback also deals a definitive blow to any hopes Arsenal held of signing the Georgian star.
PSG Injury Crisis After Barcelona Win
The announcement followed PSG’s 4-2 victory over Barcelona on Tuesday night as the club continues its Champions League title defense. Kvaratskhelia had to be substituted in the 59th minute, marking the third forced change of the match for Paris after Ousmane Dembele suffered a thigh injury in the 20th minute and captain Marquinhos also came off.
PSG released a medical update confirming the extent of the damage to all three players. The club stated that Kvaratskhelia tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will undergo surgery in the coming days. Meanwhile, both Dembele and Marquinhos will spend the upcoming weeks undergoing treatment for left and right thigh injuries respectively.
Impact on Arsenal’s Transfer Ambitions
As reported by Football365, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a known admirer of Kvaratskhelia’s abilities, and pundits have previously labeled the versatile forward a dream target to enhance the Gunners’ attack. Despite interest, the player’s father, Badri Kvaratskhelia, previously indicated his son was content in Paris, while journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that PSG remained firm on keeping him.
Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour had urged his former club to pursue the winger in June, telling The Sun that the team needs difference-makers to compete in the Premier League. However, Parlour acknowledged the difficulty of securing such a transfer, and Kvaratskhelia must now face a lengthy recovery period.
Kvaratskhelia will undergo his scheduled knee surgery in the coming days as he begins his rehabilitation process.
