Nicolas Raskin has admitted he is very happy at Rangers but remains uncertain about what the future holds when the January transfer window opens. The Belgian midfielder recently scored his first goal of the season in a 2-2 draw at Dundee, capping off a run of seven consecutive starts.
Transfer Speculation and Refocusing
Raskin was linked with a departure during the summer transfer window and missed some matches amid speculation over a potential move. Since arriving at Rangers in January 2023, he has accumulated over 150 club appearances and earned 22 caps for the Belgium national team.
Reflecting on refocusing on his club duties after the World Cup and transfer uncertainty, Raskin explained that the toughest part was simply being sidelined from matches. He noted that ambitious players naturally seek higher challenges, which led him to consider a new path after the World Cup.
However, the midfielder emphasized that he never forced a move because he genuinely enjoys playing for a major club. He credited Rangers with helping him break into the Belgian national team and praised the manager’s support since taking charge, adding that he remains calm and focused on winning games ahead of January.
When questioned about a possible contract extension before his current deal expires at the end of next season, Raskin stated that the decision rests with the club rather than himself.
Manager’s Stance and Team News
Rangers manager Derek McInnes expressed his desire to keep the squad intact during the winter market. McInnes stated that Rangers want to avoid losing key players in January unless extraordinary bids arrive that exceed a player’s valuation, noting that Raskin is eager to contribute to a successful campaign.
McInnes also revealed that Raskin mentioned having potential opportunities to leave at the close of the transfer window, but chose to stay and be part of the team. The manager added that he would welcome working with Raskin beyond his current contract if the opportunity arises.
In addition to transfer matters, McInnes shared that a sickness bug has swept through the squad, casting doubt on the availability of two regular starters for Saturday’s upcoming Scottish Premiership match against St Johnstone.
