Alejandro Garnacho Aston Villa Transfer In Doubt Over Minutes

Alejandro Garnacho faces an uncertain future at Aston Villa, with his potential permanent transfer from Chelsea reportedly in jeopardy due to a lack of playing time.

Transfer Background and Slow Start

Garnacho moved to Aston Villa from Chelsea on loan with a conditional buy option during the summer transfer window. The winger previously came through the ranks at Manchester United before leaving following a falling out with former head coach Ruben Amorim. After struggling for regular minutes during his debut season at Chelsea, the Blues sanctioned his switch to Villa Park.

Under the terms of the agreement, Aston Villa will be obligated to purchase the 22-year-old for £43 million if he reaches a specific appearance milestone this season. However, Garnacho has experienced a sluggish start, undergoing an intense mini pre-season during the international break to build up his fitness. He has yet to make a single start for Villa in any competition, logging just 42 minutes across four substitute appearances, and was omitted from the matchday squad entirely for a 1-0 victory at Newcastle United.

Chelsea Growing Frustrated With Situation

According to a report from Football Insider cited by Football365, a permanent transfer was previously viewed as almost certain, but that outcome is now in doubt. Chelsea is reportedly disappointed with the limited playing time the winger has received in the early stages of the campaign. Sources indicate that the arrangement carries a significant financial risk for Chelsea, who are eager to avoid needing to find another solution to offload the player next summer.

Addressing the player’s lack of action last month, Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery explained that Garnacho must continue working and training. Emery stated that other squad members are currently ahead in the pecking order, noting that players like George, Alysson, and Ibrahim Mbaye are performing well and meeting tactical demands. Emery added that Garnacho fell slightly behind due to pre-season circumstances and requires patience.
