Man Utd: Romano outlines next manager plan at Old Trafford

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United have decided to wait and see how the situation unfolds regarding manager Michael Carrick. The update follows a heavy 4-1 defeat to Serie A side Como on Wednesday evening, which extended the team’s winless streak across all competitions to seven matches.

Managerial Future and Upcoming Fixtures

Manchester United currently sit 13th in the Premier League following a 1-1 draw against Leeds, which Carrick had described as a fresh start. The club has also been eliminated from the Carabao Cup and dropped to 20th place in the Champions League standings. As reported by Football365, speculation has mounted over Carrick’s position, with managers such as Antonio Conte, Fabian Hurzeler, Unai Emery, Julian Nagelsmann, and Eddie Howe linked as potential replacements.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained that internal discussions involved directors, players, and owners following the defeat to Como, which he described as one of the most negative moments in the club’s history. Despite the complicated situation, club sources indicated that it is business as usual for the upcoming weekend. After a delay of three to four hours longer than usual, the club confirmed that Carrick will fulfill media duties and host the pre-match press conference ahead of the fixture against Bournemouth.

Potential Successors and Internal Discussions

Romano stated that the current decision is effectively to wait and evaluate the situation, noting that a November international break is approaching. Should the club decide to make a change, they want to ensure they select the best possible long-term option rather than rushing a decision within 24 hours.

While Fabian Hurzeler has admirers within the board, Romano clarified that Manchester United have never made contact with him and the manager remains completely focused on Brighton. However, Julian Nagelsmann, Eddie Howe, and Antonio Conte are among the names that will be discussed internally as potential options for the position, with the club ultimately deciding which profile of coach to pursue if a change is made.
