Man Utd Give Carrick Ultimatum as Three Managers Eye Job

Manchester United could dismiss manager Michael Carrick if the team fails to secure a victory against Bournemouth, according to recent reports, as several high-profile coaches monitor the situation at Old Trafford.

Pressure Mounts After Defeats and Poor Start

Scrutiny is intensifying around Carrick following a 4-1 loss to Como in the Champions League. Domestically, the club has already exited the Carabao Cup and managed only seven points from their opening seven Premier League fixtures.

According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United director of football Jason Wilcox continues to support the current manager. The outlet noted that the club is not currently planning an immediate dismissal, though the next four matches leading up to the November international break are viewed as critical for a response.

Bournemouth Clash and Potential Replacements

However, X account The Touchline reported that Carrick faces a high risk of being sacked if he fails to beat Bournemouth at Old Trafford in the Premier League. The report claimed that the board believes the squad has lost faith in the manager and that the club has already started identifying potential successors.

Among the available managers reportedly interested in the position are Eddie Howe, Antonio Conte, and Julian Nagelsmann. Journalist Dean Jones reported via FlashScore that Conte and Howe are keen on the role if it opens up, while The Telegraph stated that Nagelsmann is also interested in taking charge.

Calls for Stability Amid Ongoing Struggles

Former Arsenal player Paul Merson advised INEOS, the co-owners of Manchester United, to maintain stability and stick with Carrick through the difficult period. Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson argued that constant managerial changes will not solve the club’s deeper structural and squad limitations.

Merson said, “To steady the ship, I think you’ve got to keep with the same manager. He’s proven that he did get results last year. This is what I wanted to see from Michael Carrick last season. When it was going well and people were saying give him the job, it’s easy when you’re winning every week. It’s when you’re not doing well how the manager reacts. Now is the time to see how you are going to react.”

He added that financial regulations restrict the club from simply buying top players to fix the squad immediately, comparing the team’s inconsistent form to playing snakes and ladders.
