Bruno Fernandes’ Home Burgled During Champions League Trip

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes had his home burgled on Wednesday while he was in Italy for his club’s Champions League fixture against Como.

Burglary Details and Support

It is understood that the family of Fernandes was not present at the Cheshire residence when the break-in occurred. The intruders remained inside the property for less than five minutes before law enforcement arrived.

Manchester United are reportedly providing support to the 32-year-old midfielder following the incident. BBC Sport has reached out to Cheshire Police to obtain further information regarding the case.

Trend of High-Profile Burglaries

The Portugal international joins a growing list of footballers whose homes have been targeted while they were away playing for their teams. Manchester City player Ruben Dias and his former partner Maya Jama experienced a similar burglary at their Cheshire home. Dias was away at City’s Champions League match against Galatasaray when the property was targeted in January.

Other previous victims of residential break-ins in the same region include prominent football stars Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, and Riyad Mahrez.

Club Situation and Captaincy

Fernandes has represented Manchester United since arriving from Sporting in January 2020. Following their 4-1 defeat against Como, the midfielder voiced criticism regarding the tactics employed by manager Michael Carrick.

Despite his post-match comments, Fernandes will retain his role as team captain and will not face disciplinary action from the club.
