Former footballers have increasingly embraced the creator economy, with Gary Neville’s expanding media empire leading the charge. Neville’s digital channel The Overlap has shifted to a daily schedule, growing its lineup with prominent former players and managers.
Expansion of The Overlap Empire
Unlike rival productions, Neville’s media output maintains a primary focus on football. Following the summer signing of Wayne Rooney for a Manchester United-focused show with YouTuber Mark Goldbridge, The Overlap expanded its schedule to run from Monday to Friday at 4pm.
The platform has cultivated a familiar family dynamic among its regular contributors. Neville and Jamie Carragher anchor the production, joined by figures such as Jill Scott, Roy Keane, and Ian Wright. The network continues to grow its reach, offering newsletters alongside its video content.
New Faces and Daily Lineups
The channel’s expanded schedule features fresh pairings reviewing the weekend’s action and discussing sport topics. Steven Gerrard anchors Monday episodes alongside Becky Ives, while Kelly Cates and Ashley Young host Tuesdays. Tim Sherwood and Jamie Redknapp pair up for Wednesdays.
Additional former players have also joined the network. Mark Crossley and Duncan Ferguson formed a pairing on the platform, discussing topics ranging from modern goalkeeping to video assistant referees. Goalkeepers Joe Hart and Peter Schmeichel have also signed on, recently debating topics surrounding Manchester City.
Schmeichel pressed Hart on the club’s ownership during a recent discussion about Manchester City. Hart defended the club’s leadership based on his personal working relationship with Khaldoon al-Mubarak, providing further content for the channel.
Neville’s ongoing business ventures, including parallel building projects in Manchester, continue to intersect with the football landscape his platform covers.
