Scott McTominay scored his first two goals of the season to help Napoli secure a 4-3 victory over Bodø/Glimt and relieve pressure on coach Massimiliano Allegri. McTominay, who also hit a post, returned to action after missing a month of the season following a surgical procedure in early September to treat an irregular heartbeat.
Napoli Edges Bodø/Glimt in Seven-Goal Thriller
Matteo Politano opened the scoring for Napoli in the first minute, but Jens Petter Hauge quickly cancelled it out for Bodø. McTominay restored the Italian side’s advantage before halftime, only for Andreas Helmersen to equalize once more for the Norwegian club.
The Scotland midfielder found the net again in the 71st minute, and an own goal by Odin Bjørtuft later secured the result. Bodø managed an injury-time consolation goal through Sondre Brunstad Fet.
Atlético Hangs On and Dortmund Wins
Atlético Madrid played with 10 men to secure a 1-1 draw against Stuttgart, denying the German underdogs a chance to join Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool at the top of the standings on nine points. Julián Alvarez scored for Atlético to cancel out Jamie Leweling’s opener. The visitors were forced to cling on after Morten Hjulmand received a red card for a reckless sliding tackle from behind on Angelo Stiller.
Serhou Guirassy scored twice for Borussia Dortmund, though the German team missed numerous chances in a 2-1 away victory over Azerbaijan’s Sabah. The performance lacked conviction following Dortmund’s recent defeat to Bodø/Glimt and a draw against Union Berlin, results that allowed Bayern Munich to claim the top spot in the Bundesliga.
Late Drama and Further Results
Pavel Kacor scored with a leaping volley in the 90th minute to earn Slavia Prague a 2-2 draw away at Fenerbahce, prolonging the Turkish club’s lengthy wait for a Champions League victory. Fenerbahce had initially established a 2-0 lead early in the match before a defensive error by Mattéo Guendouzi allowed the Czech visitors back into the contest.
PSV defeated Porto 1-0 courtesy of a 57th-minute winner from Guus Til, inflicting a third consecutive defeat on the Portuguese side. Meanwhile, Roma secured a comfortable 4-0 victory over Slovan Bratislava, with Mario Hermoso, Nahuel Molina, and Niccolò Pisilli scoring before Donyell Malen converted a penalty to complete the win.
