Turkish FA bans 147 officials for betting rule violations

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan is among 147 football club officials who have received 45-day bans from the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) for violating betting rules.

Betting Investigation and Suspensions

The TFF announced in September that 448 individuals faced provisional suspensions and referrals to the professional football disciplinary board over accusations of placing bets while holding office.

Regulations established by the TFF, alongside those of FIFA and UEFA, strictly prohibit match officials, players, and coaches from engaging in betting activities.

The federation stated that the individuals involved held positions at clubs competing in the top two divisions of Turkish football across the preceding five years.

Following investigations, approximately 147 people were determined to have broken the betting regulations and will face restrictions preventing them from performing football duties throughout the suspension duration. Meanwhile, authorities determined there were insufficient grounds to pursue disciplinary action regarding the remaining 301 cases.

Wider Crackdown on Gambling

Turkish football governing bodies have intensified efforts to suppress betting within the sport over the past year.

A previous investigation conducted by the TFF in November 2025 resulted in bans being issued to 149 referees and 1,204 players.
