SPFL Opens Bidding for 2029-30 Scottish Premiership TV Rights

The SPFL has invited broadcasters to submit bids for the UK broadcasting rights to Scottish Premiership matches, beginning with the 2029-30 campaign. League officials anticipate significant demand from television networks for the upcoming rights package.

Current Broadcasting Agreements and Flexibility

The tournament’s existing five-year deal with Sky Sports is valued at £150 million and permits the network to broadcast up to 60 matches annually. That arrangement commenced last season and runs through the end of the 2028-29 schedule.

In addition, Premier Sports holds rights to air up to 22 top-tier fixtures each season. However, league officials noted that they remain open regarding the exact volume of live matches broadcast in subsequent cycles.

SPFL Executive Comments on the Tender

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster emphasized the financial importance of the broadcasting tender for participating clubs. According to Doncaster, obtaining robust media partnerships remains vital for sustaining revenue streams across the organization.

Doncaster added that the league expects substantial competitive attention from media companies given the status of the competition. He described the tournament as one of the most thrilling national league contests in Europe.

Meanwhile, the SPFL confirmed that a separate agreement involving Premier Sports for Scottish League Cup broadcast and sponsorship rights runs through the conclusion of the 2030-31 season and remains entirely separate from the new Premiership tender.
