Celtic are preparing to host Spanish La Liga side Celta Vigo in the Europa League, with assistant manager Shaun Maloney describing the continental encounter as “close to” a must-win match for Martin O’Neill’s squad, BBC Sport reported.
Momentum and Squad Selection
The Glasgow side heads into the fixture seeking to maintain momentum following a 7-1 victory over Hearts. Key focal points include whether manager Martin O’Neill has established his preferred attacking trio in Camilo Duran, Callum Osmand, and Haissem Hassan, while defensive setup questions also remain.
Concerns have also emerged regarding the atmosphere at Celtic Park, where a potential boycott by the Green Brigade supporters’ group could reduce crowd energy and affect player performance on the pitch.
Broadcast Rights and Tributes
Discussions around Scottish football also encompass the latest SPFL television rights tender, with scrutiny over how upcoming broadcast agreements will affect supporters’ viewing access and whether an increase in live televised fixtures will benefit the domestic game.
The discussion also included a tribute to former player Georgi Nemsadze ahead of the European tie.
