Hoddle Labels Diallo Man Utd’s ‘Bright Spark’ in Defeat

Former England midfielder Glenn Hoddle identified Amad Diallo as Manchester United’s standout performer during their heavy 4-1 Champions League defeat against Como on Wednesday night at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. The Italian hosts took early command when Nico Paz netted just two minutes into the encounter.

Diallo Offers Spark in Disappointing Display

Paz added his second goal after the interval, alongside strikes from Tasos Douvikas and Jacobo Ramon for the Serie A side. Manchester United managed only an added-time consolation through Joshua Zirkzee, who capitalized on involvement from Diallo.

Diallo was introduced at the start of the second half to replace Matheus Cunha. During his 45-minute display, the 24-year-old Ivory Coast international recorded three attempts on goal with two hitting the target, registered two key passes, completed 86.4 percent of his passes, and made five dribble attempts.

Speaking on co-commentary for TNT Sports, Hoddle commended the winger’s proactive approach. Hoddle stated that Diallo proved to be the team’s bright spark after arriving at the break, noting that he consistently attempted to generate chances, cut inside onto his left foot, and displayed positive intent throughout his spell on the pitch.

Cole Defends Carrick Amid Ongoing Struggles

Pundit Joe Cole also offered his post-match assessment on TNT Sports, labeling the defeat a humbling experience for the Premier League side. Cole argued that responsibility should not fall solely on manager Michael Carrick, pointing instead to wider recruitment and organizational issues.

Cole explained that Carrick is not the primary issue, asserting that structural problems have plagued the club across several years. He added that numerous members of the current squad lack the required quality, questioning when scrutiny will shift to the director of football given the difficulty of moving on players tied to lengthy contracts.
