Barcelona, Real Madrid react to Haaland’s transfer condition

Barcelona and Real Madrid have reportedly responded after Manchester City striker Erling Haaland established a specific condition for a future transfer. The star forward has been increasingly linked with a potential departure amid mounting uncertainty surrounding his current club.

Manchester City’s Financial Charges and Potential Relegation

Speculation surrounding Haaland’s future follows Manchester City being found guilty on 114 of 115 financial fair play charges after allegations of breaching Premier League regulations between 2009 and 2018. Although the club maintains its innocence and has lodged an appeal, reports indicate they face a challenging battle to clear their name.

If the appeal is unsuccessful, the club could face severe sanctions, such as substantial fines, transfer bans, points deductions, expulsion from the league, or being stripped of past Premier League titles. Recent reports suggest a major points deduction resulting in relegation to the Championship is a likely outcome if the verdict stands, which would likely trigger a mass player exodus including Haaland.

Haaland’s Key Transfer Condition

According to a report from Spanish outlet Nacional, Haaland would only move to Barcelona or Real Madrid on the condition that a release clause is included in his next contract. The plan involves establishing a high yet manageable fee that would allow him to depart for a new chapter whenever he chooses.

However, neither Spanish powerhouse is currently willing to accept those terms, as both clubs prefer greater long-term protection over the player, meaning a compromise would be required to complete any future deal.

Pundit Predicts Real Madrid Move

While Arsenal has also been mentioned as a possible destination, former Chelsea player Pat Nevin expressed to Casino Hawks that he believes Real Madrid is the most logical fit for the Norwegian striker. Nevin noted that Haaland and his father have carefully planned every step of his career thus far.

Nevin admitted he would be disappointed to see the player leave the Premier League, emphasizing how fortunate fans currently are to witness one of the greatest goalscorers in the flesh on a weekly basis, and warned that losing him due to regulatory punishments would be a heavy cost for English football.
