Antonio Conte has responded to reports linking him with Manchester United by stating that he is not currently in advanced negotiations with any club.
Conte Dismisses Speculation and Financial Claims
Reports in Italy claimed that Conte had held discussions with the United board regarding the managerial position following a 4-1 defeat against Como. The reports alleged that the former Chelsea manager demanded full control over transfer policy and intended to bring his own backroom staff to Old Trafford.
While BBC Sport understands that Conte has an interest in the position, the Italian manager took to social media to clarify his stance. Writing on Instagram, Conte stated that reports regarding financial demands, requests for full control, and descriptions of his personality are entirely unfounded.
“My name has been linked with numerous clubs, but there are currently no negotiations at an advanced stage,” Conte wrote. He added that should a concrete opportunity arise, discussions would take place at that time to jointly consider terms.
Uncertainty Surrounding Michael Carrick
Michael Carrick faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford following the heavy Champions League defeat to Como. Although Carrick is scheduled to remain in the dugout for the upcoming Premier League fixture against Bournemouth, sources indicate that club officials have started identifying potential successors.
Along with Conte, former Newcastle manager Eddie Howe and former Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann are also understood to be monitoring the situation. Conte remains a free agent after departing Napoli at the end of the previous season, where he secured a Serie A title and a Supercoppa Italiana. His managerial career in England includes a Premier League title and FA Cup victory with Chelsea, as well as a 16-month spell in charge of Tottenham Hotspur.
Fabian Hurzeler Focuses on Brighton
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has also addressed speculation connecting him to the Manchester United position after guiding his team to third place in the Premier League table. Hurzeler, who remains under contract with Brighton until 2029, expressed contentment with his current role.
“I am really focused on my job here. I have no time to think about these rumours because we play every three days,” Hurzeler stated, while also expressing respect for Michael Carrick.
Manchester United will continue preparations for their upcoming league fixture as the club assesses its managerial options.
