Rice Strikes Late as Arsenal Draw 2-2 With Bayern Munich

Declan Rice scored an 82nd-minute equalizer to earn Arsenal a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in a dramatic UEFA Champions League tie at the Allianz Arena. The midfielder’s late finish answered Harry Kane’s second-half penalty after Eberechi Eze had earlier given the visitors the lead.

Eze Capitalizes After Saka Injury

Mikel Arteta named a strong starting side for the trip to Germany, making just two changes with Jurriën Timber and Noni Madueke coming into the lineup. However, Arsenal suffered an early blow when Bukayo Saka went down clutching his thigh in the 10th minute and had to be substituted. Eze replaced him, prompting Madueke to move over to his natural position on the right flank.

The substitution paid dividends midway through the first half. Captain Martin Ødegaard unlocked the home defense with an incisive pass into the path of Eze, who allowed the ball to bounce before striking a first-time shot into the far corner. A brief pause followed an initial offside flag, but a video assistant referee check confirmed Eze was onside and awarded the goal.

Kane Leads Bayern’s Comeback

Bayern Munich slowly established control, driven by the distribution of Kane. The striker dropped deep into his own half to orchestrate attacks, including a key pass in the 23rd minute that released Alphonso Davies behind Timber. Davies made no mistake with a sharp finish to bring the hosts level.

The German giants continued to create chances before the break, with former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry shooting directly at David Raya. Bayern completed the turnaround after the restart when Timber handled Kane’s shot inside the box. Kane took his time before firing the spot kick into the bottom corner, marking his 10th straight Champions League game with a goal and his 16th overall against Arsenal.

Goalkeeping Heroics and Late Equalizer

The second half delivered high-level goalkeeping from both sides. Manuel Neuer produced a extraordinary fingertip save to turn Bruno Guimarães’ header from a Rice corner onto the crossbar. At the other end, Raya reacted quickly to stop Dayot Upamecano’s point-blank header from Gnabry’s delivery.

After Konrad Laimer missed an opportunity to put Bayern further ahead, Arsenal found their second goal in the 82nd minute. Substitute Viktor Gyökeres supplied Rice inside the penalty area, and the midfielder placed a low finish beyond Neuer. Timber almost snatched a victory in stoppage time, but Neuer tipped his long-range attempt over the crossbar to ensure Bayern extended their home unbeaten run in Champions League group or league phase games to 40 matches.
