Kai Havertz Praises Harry Kane and Discusses Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz has expressed deep admiration for Harry Kane ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich, while also discussing his friendship with teammate Viktor Gyokeres.

Havertz Admires Harry Kane

Havertz has secured the primary number nine position at Arsenal, starting up front in eight of the team’s 11 competitive fixtures this season and scoring three goals, including two in the Premier League. However, his scoring record contrasts with his upcoming opponent, Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane.

Kane previously scored 280 goals for Arsenal’s local rivals Tottenham Hotspur and has netted 155 goals in 157 matches since transferring to Germany three years ago. Speaking to Men in Blazers, Havertz named the England captain as a player he models his game on. Havertz said: “I love Harry Kane. For me he’s one of the best strikers I’ve seen in my life.”

Havertz added: “He’s probably also not a proper number nine, but still the numbers he produces and also assists, and how he links up and helps the team when they’re deep or something is amazing – so he is definitely someone that I look up to.” Havertz prepares to face his role model on Wednesday evening, hoping to keep the Bayern star’s prolific form quiet.

Relationship with Viktor Gyokeres

Mikel Arteta signed Gyokeres in the summer of 2025 for £67 million from Sporting Lisbon, where the Swedish forward scored 97 goals in 102 games. Although Gyokeres contributed during his first season as Arsenal secured their first league title in 22 years, he has since dropped behind Havertz in the pecking order. This season, Gyokeres has started only three competitive matches, featured in eight overall, and recorded zero goal contributions.

Despite direct competition for the starting spot, Havertz stated that the two maintain a strong bond. Speaking about his relationship with the Swedish striker, Havertz said: “We connected well from day one, and no one is angry if someone else plays.”

Havertz continued: “I know Viktor; he wants to play every game like I do, but when the referee blows the whistle or when the training session is finished, we put that aside and be teammates and achieve things together and that’s what we do. He is a top guy and a top striker.” The pair also play padel together, with Havertz assessing their rivalry by stating that Gyokeres possesses more power while he holds the better technique.

Reports suggest a departure may approach for Gyokeres at Arsenal, with a valuation reportedly established and potential replacements already being considered.
