Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany was hospitalized on Friday after collapsing during a training session. The Belgian manager had been dealing with a viral infection in the days leading up to the incident.
Medical Care and Current Status
Kompany fell ill while watching the club’s reserve team training session. He had previously managed the team from the touchline during their 2-2 Champions League draw against Arsenal on Wednesday despite his illness.
Bayern Munich announced via their official website that the coach needed medical help after collapsing at the reserve session. The club stated that he is undergoing comprehensive medical examinations and will stay under observation, while his coaching staff takes charge of training and matches in the interim.
Club Response
Max Eberl, the sporting director for Bayern Munich, emphasized that the manager’s wellbeing is the primary focus. Eberl stated that the club will provide all required assistance for a full recovery and confirmed that Kompany will receive as much time as necessary, with everyone at the organization wishing him well.
The Bundesliga league leaders are scheduled to play an away fixture against Freiburg on Sunday.
