Fifa Women’s World Cup 2027 Prep Money Matches Men’s

Teams participating in the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil will receive identical preparation funding from Fifa as those competing in the 2026 men’s tournament, according to the world governing body.

Increased Funding and Travel Provisions

The preparation money allocated for all 32 participating teams has more than doubled to $2.5 million (£1.86 million) per team. Overall, total preparation funding for the tournament will jump to $80 million, compared to $31 million during the 2023 competition.

Additionally, every player is guaranteed either business class or chartered flights, alongside an individual hotel room instead of a shared space. Fifa stated that these measures align women’s provisions with the men’s World Cup, addressing an issue that sparked controversy during prior events.

A 2023 survey by players’ union Fifpro, following the tournament co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, indicated that 80% of players traveled in business class on return flights, while 94% used business class on outbound journeys.

Women’s Club World Cup Updates

While the overall prize fund for the 2027 tournament remains undetermined, Fifa announced that the United States will host the inaugural Women’s Club World Cup in January 2028. The Guardian previously reported this month that the US was positioned to host the tournament, with San Diego and Los Angeles identified as preferred host cities.

Nineteen teams will participate in the competition, with seven already securing their places: Arsenal, Barcelona, Club América Femenil, Gotham FC, Corinthians, Wuhan Jiangda, and Naegohyang from North Korea. The remaining spots will feature six European teams, three clubs each from the AFC, CAF, Concacaf, and Conmebol, and one representative from Oceania.

Fifa chief women’s football officer Sarai Bareman explained that a thorough assessment determined the most appropriate host for the first edition. She cited the United States’ recent success in hosting major Fifa events, strong interest in women’s football, and advanced sporting infrastructure as the deciding factors.

Bareman added that the collaboration with the qualified clubs, government authorities, host cities, commercial partners, and the passionate local football ecosystem aims to establish a high standard for global women’s club football and create a benchmark for future editions.
