Man Utd choose Julian Nagelsmann over Antonio Conte for job

Julian Nagelsmann has moved ahead of Antonio Conte as the leading candidate to become the next Manchester United manager as pressure mounts on Michael Carrick. United suffered a 4-1 defeat against Como in the Champions League, marking their fourth loss in seven matches. Following the match, Bruno Fernandes criticized the team’s pressing tactics for giving opponents too much control, further increasing the scrutiny on Carrick.

Nagelsmann Emerges as Leading Candidate

According to a report by The Telegraph, Nagelsmann is considered a frontrunner to take over at Old Trafford if Carrick is dismissed from his position. The 39-year-old is open to joining the club after departing from his role as Germany manager following their exit in the round of 32 at the World Cup. Nagelsmann also benefits from strong internal support, as United’s director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, is pushing for his appointment after the pair previously achieved significant success together at RB Leipzig.

Why United Ruled Out Antonio Conte

Although Conte has expressed a strong desire to manage United and help a major club return to success, representatives have lobbed for the former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss without securing a prominent place in the club’s plans. Sources indicate that the Italian manager does not fit the specific structural framework that United are determined to maintain. Club officials are wary of his volatile temperament and his well-documented history of friction with owners over transfer market spending.

While Italian media outlets suggested Conte was reaching an agreement to succeed Carrick, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that no deal has been finalized. Former United player Ashley Young, who previously played under Conte at Inter Milan, recently described the 57-year-old as intense and warned that his appointment could lead to a disaster if players fail to meet his demanding running requirements and lengthy team meetings.
