Antonio Conte has responded to speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United to replace Michael Carrick. Former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager Conte has been without a club since departing Serie A side Napoli at the end of the previous season.
Managerial Speculation and Club Context
Conte has drawn attention in recent weeks amid suggestions he is seeking a return to management, with both Manchester United and Juventus mentioned as potential destinations. The Manchester United position could open up soon as current head coach Carrick faces mounting pressure following a 4-1 defeat against Como in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Under Carrick, Manchester United have managed only two victories in their eleven matches across all competitions this season, though it has been confirmed that he will remain in charge for the upcoming weekend fixture against AFC Bournemouth. Nevertheless, the club continues to be associated with several potential successors, including Conte, Eddie Howe, Julian Nagelsmann, and Unai Emery. A report on Thursday alleged that Manchester United had initiated talks with Conte, who had reportedly outlined two demands to succeed Carrick.
Conte Denies Advanced Talks
As reported by Football365, Conte has dismissed those claims while suggesting he is contemplating a return to the dugout. Speaking via Instagram, Conte stated that his name has been connected with various clubs, but confirmed there are no ongoing negotiations at an advanced stage. He added that following a successful tenure at Napoli, he will take the necessary time to evaluate how and when to resume management, ensuring it is a carefully weighed decision made when conditions are appropriate.
Conte also addressed stories regarding his alleged financial demands, requests for complete control, and character assessments. He noted that reports of financial requests and full control made to mentioned clubs, alongside reservations about his strong personality, are unfounded because there is no concrete basis for such claims. He explained that if a tangible opportunity materializes, discussions will take place with the club in question to jointly evaluate potential terms while respecting both parties’ needs and his professional approach. Until that time, any assumptions regarding his demands and career future are merely speculation rather than fact.
