Liverpool linked with £25m release clause move for winger

Liverpool have reportedly informed La Liga club Valencia of their intention to pay the release clause for 19-year-old winger David Otorbi. The Reds have experienced a mixed start to the 2026/27 campaign following criticism over their summer transfer activity.

Transfer Interest and Valencia’s Response

According to Spanish reports cited by Football365, Liverpool indicated to Valencia and the player’s representatives that they were prepared to activate a 30 million euro (£25m) release clause for the right winger, who has scored one goal in eight La Liga appearances this season. In response, Valencia moved quickly to extend Otorbi’s contract and double his release clause to 60 million euros.

During the summer transfer window, head coach Andoni Iraola welcomed new arrivals including Bradley Barcola, Victor Munoz, Jeremy Jacquet, and Ronald Araujo following the departure of Mohamed Salah. Despite these additions, the club also pursued moves for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr, leaving open the possibility of further reinforcement in wide positions.

Midfield Targets and Pundit Reaction

Alongside their pursuit of attacking reinforcements, Liverpool are anticipated to target a central midfielder in the coming months, with Bournemouth standout Alex Scott emerging as a potential option.

Chelsea are also reportedly monitoring Scott, and former Blues midfielder Emmanuel Petit told Betfair that he expects the England international to move on from Bournemouth. Petit praised Scott’s work rate, intelligence, and overall quality, describing him as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
